It is new comic day again so I am going to make some recommendations because… somebody might listen and buy some good comics I guess.
First of all if you have much more money than me and you like beautiful books both the late, great Joe Kubert’s Tarzan Of The Apes Artist Edition and the also great Walt Simonson’s Alien The Illustrated Story Deluxe hit shelves today and are breathtaking. It took me many years to appreciate studying pencil work in it’s original scale but now I think there are few things as beautiful in this world. My jealousy at what these people can do with their hands is far outweighed by my awe.
I haven’t read it but Barack Hussein Obama looks like a brilliant book and when someone lends me $20 I will tell you for sure. If you are looking for something for the younger set,Where’s My Shoggoth? is a children’s book set in the H.P. Lovecraft universe. Buy it now and watch nightmares be birthed straight into a child’s mind. There is also a sweet slipcase of all the early Tank Girl stuff. It is a classic for a reason and you should buy it and find out why.
A few books I am insanely excited about this week I have not had the chance to read but I am pretty sure they will be great. Wasteland vol. 7is out. Definitely one of the best hard sci-fi series around. Mad Max for people who like their destroyed earth’s to have more class and religious struggles. Happyis Grant Morrison’s first creator owned book in a while. I am not the world’s biggest Morrison fan but even I admit he never fails to give you your money’s worth. It is a can’t miss. The same goes for Joe Casey’s new book The Milkman Murders.Casey doesn’t ever produce throwaway books. I have been excited about Roberson’s Memorial for a while now and it is finally out today as well. He is one of the more exciting people in comics right now and definitely deserves a look if you haven’t ever read any of his stuff. There is little doubt that American Vampire will go down as one of the best comics of the decade and this week gets a brand new hardcover, a fresh softcover, and a single issue. Go read some of it and get excited about horror comics.
Finally, new issues ofMind MGMT,Mind The Gap,Goon, Elephantmen, Prophet,Sixth Gun,andHigher Earthhit shelves and all of those books have been great since they started. My obligatory nod to the big 2 means you should go readTalon #0,The Ultimates #16, Amazing Spider-Man #694,andCaptain Marvel #4.
Sorry I wasn’t more in depth. I am sleep deprived.
